Longnose Butterflyfish minimum tank size.
2/4/2010
Hi Crew.
<Hi Dave>
Firstly, thank you for supplying such an awesome source of information.
I started my first marine aquarium in August last year, and without
your help (through previously answered questions) I would have been
vastly more
confused than I currently am.
<Thank you for these kind words>
Through a lot of elbow grease and perseverance I seem to have finally
got on top of a Cyano problem in my tank.
<Yes! Elbow grease is actually the best weapon for this!>
I think if it were not for your pages of advice, and knowledge that a
lot of people also have to fight this evil monster, I would have packed
it in already.
<But you have won, and now feel ready to conquer anything!>
I am stocking slowly, and currently have a Firefish and a pair of
ocellaris clownfish plus the usual clean up crew all doing very well
indeed. I would love to now add a yellow Longnose Butterflyfish, but am
a little confused whether my 55 gallon tank is large enough?
<It is not in my opinion>
On your pages with information about this fish, it suggests that they
should not be kept in a tank under 40 gallons,
<This is definitely true, check the wording 'should not be kept
in a tank under 40 gallons'>
but some of the faq's suggest that they should be kept in a 75
gallon plus tank.
<This is the minimum tank size I would recommend>
I would hate to provide an unsatisfactory or stressful environment for
any of my marine life.
<Indeed, and is this fish likely to upset your Firefish? It might.
These fishes are perhaps too peaceful, in a 55, to be placed with a
Butterfly, even one as good-natured as the excellent Longnose>
Thank you once again for your time, and thanks Bob for writing your
book,
<And thanks to you Dave, for looking (asking) before
jumping!>
